Shawn Borich, MD, MPH
Dr. Shawn Borich is a physician executive and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of leadership in emergency medicine, urgent care, hospital medicine, occupational health, telemedicine, and global health. A board-certified emergency physician, he has built, led, and advised multiple healthcare organizations, combining clinical expertise with strong operational and financial leadership.
Dr. Borich is also the chief executive of The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic in Nicaragua, where he leads 24/7 primary and emergency care, infrastructure modernization, community health programs, and donor development to sustain services in resource-limited settings.
A serial healthcare builder, he co-founded and led BetterMed Urgent Care, expanding it from concept to a regional system treating more than 165,000 patients annually across 12 centers and generating over $36 million in revenue. He drove improvements in patient flow, risk reduction, satisfaction, and financial performance.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Borich served as President of SecureHealth & Wellness, creating one of Virginia’s leading testing operations, delivering over 120,000 tests and more than $15 million in revenue through advanced workflows and HIPAA-compliant data infrastructure.
His international work includes serving as senior advisor and director for a strategic consulting group, guiding humanitarian and governance initiatives in conflict zones across Ukraine, South Sudan, Iraq, and Nicaragua. He has also provided trauma and medical support in high-risk environments for private security operations.
Dr. Borich contributes to aerospace medicine as part of Orbital Medicine, supporting medical research in microgravity environments, including a successful trauma-device test flight aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard mission.
Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles with SCP Health, improving quality, safety, financial performance, and patient experience across hundreds of thousands of annual encounters in multi-state operations.
Dr. Borich earned his medical degree from Michigan State University, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan.
